Hamilton Local Information

Escarpment view of Hamilton

Located on the Niagara Escarpment as it bends around western end of Lake Ontario, Hamilton is a key industrial centre in Canada, if not for North America. The area was settled by Europeans in the late 1700s, and was the site of several key battles in the War of 1812. The growth of railroads, and then the automobile, made Hamilton a leading steel manufacturer, and other consumer goods. The Escarpment divides the lower city from the "mountain", and provides many natural areas and parks, and views of Lake Ontario.
