Hamilton Before You Shop for a Car
Consider these items before beginning your purchase process:
- Shop like a business would: Decide what you want, set a price range, and then bids and offers from as many dealerships as possible.
- Consumer Reports (US) publishes its new car reviews six months into each model year (around March). Consumer Reports' buys and uses each new car over an extended period - than the simple test drive used for most car reviews.
- "No-dicker" price structures recognize the unpleasantness of buying a vehicle. Everything is negotiable, even the "value price"
- Avoid buying new models in their first year. Virtually every new model has some design defects
